A 4.4 magnitude earthquake occurred 34 minutes ago 98 km northeast of Cabrera, Dominican Republic, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The earthquake struck at a shallow depth of 10 km below the epicenter near Cabrera, Provincia Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Dominican Republic, early in the morning of Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 1:50 a.m. local time. The magnitude and other parameters of the quake may still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later released by the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), which also listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake.
Towns near the epicenter where the quake could have been felt as very weak tremors include Cabrera (pop. 4,900) located 98 km from the epicenter.
